The Atlanta Falcons acquired quarterback Chris Chandler, a 10-year pro, from the Houston Oilers for two undisclosed 1997 draft choices Monday.

“We believe he gives us a chance where we can win immediately,” said Dan Reeves, the Falcons’ new coach. “We feel like he gives us the ability to compete.”

Last year’s early season starter, Jeff George, was suspended and subsequently released by the Falcons after a sideline shouting match with then-coach June Jones. Bobby Hebert, who succeeded George, is contemplating retirement.
