GIRLS’ SOCCER
It’s the game that girls’ soccer fans have been waiting for--or dreading, depending on your point of view--since the Southern Section Division II pairings were announced Feb. 17. It is top-seeded Santa Margarita against Mission Viejo in a quarterfinal game at 3 p.m. at Santa Margarita, and it could be the most hard-fought game of the entire tournament.
Sea View League champion Santa Margarita (16-1-3) is led by goalkeeper Riki-Ann Serrins, who will play for prestigious Maryland next season and four other players headed to NCAA Division I schools.
Mission Viejo (18-5-4) stunned the soccer community with a tie in the Division I final last season playing with seven sophomores and a freshman in its starting lineup. This season, the Diablos seemed to have second place in the South Coast League wrapped up before losing its final game to Trabuco Hills. Mission Viejo finished 5-3-2 in league and tied for second place with Mater Dei (6-4 in league).
