Capistrano Valley Christian vs. Western Christian

Where--Pyramid, 9:30 a.m.

Capistrano Valley Christian (23-5)--The Eagles have been cutting it close. They beat Lone Pine in the semifinals, 50-49, after almost handing over the game by shooting 10 of 24 from the free-throw line (Lone Pine missed free throws with six seconds left). They might have lost in the quarterfinals to Palos Verdes Chadwick if not for two missed free throws with three seconds remaining. Hayley Hall is the leading scorer, but Gini Joy Carney has been an important complementary player, averaging 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Covina Western Christian (21-4)--The top-seeded Lancers have breezed through the playoffs, defeating Claremont Webb in the quarterfinals, 61-34, and Riverside Woodcrest Christian, 54-41. This is their second consecutive appearance in the final: they lost last year to San Luis Obispo Mission Prep, 48-34. The Lancers want to push the ball up the floor and score in transition.

Key to the game--The Eagles have been hot and cold from the free-throw line. It nearly cost them against Lone Pine. In a title game played in an arena environment, where the scoring is typically lower than in a high school gym, free-throw opportunities can mean everything.
