Midfielder Victor Saban scored both goals Saturday in Belmont’s 2-1 victory over Woodland Hills El Camino Real in the City Section boys’ championship at East Los Angeles College.

Second-seeded Belmont (17-2-3) won its second City title. The Sentinels shared last season’s title with Garfield. Belmont had to forfeit the 1994 crown after using an ineligible player.

El Camino Real (20-4-6), seeded 17th and the Northwest Valley Conference runner-up, won four playoff matches on the road to the final.

Saban scored the winning goal with nine minutes to play, shooting the ball off the hand of goalkeeper Phil Graham.

“It was a great game and we never gave up,” said El Camino’s Gerardo Herrer. “They were more skilled than us but we played with heart, not skill.”

Santa Ana Mater Dei 2, San Gorgonio 1--Bret Corbin’s penalty kick was the deciding factor for Mater Dei in winning the Southern Section Division II title at Gahr High.

The top-seeded Monarchs (24-1-3), who lost only to Capistrano Valley, were helped by goalkeeper Jeff McKeever’s nine saves.
