Matadors Leave Penn Wanting

Share

There’s no substitute for experience. That’s the lesson drawn from Cal State Northridge’s 19-0 baseball victory over Pennsylvania on Monday in the first round of the Johnny Quik Classic at Fresno State.

The Matadors’ 18th victory came in their 27th game. Penn is 1-3 and did not play a game until last Friday because of inclement weather.

“A huge difference is that our freshmen have played enough that they are basically sophomores already,” Northridge Coach Mike Batesole said.

And juniors are basically seniors.

All-American shortstop Adam Kennedy, a junior, had three hits against Penn to raise his batting average to .484. Kennedy has one more at-bat than the entire Penn roster, and he has more than double the runs, hits and runs batted in. (See chart).
