Lacy Pitches No-Hitter in Esperanza Softball Victory

Catie Lacy pitched a no-hitter as Esperanza defeated South Pasadena, 6-0, in a consolation semifinal game at the Brea Olinda softball tournament Friday at Brea Olinda.

Lacy (2-1) struck out 12 in the game, which was called on the mercy rule after six innings. Koral King was two for four with a double and two runs batted in for Esperanza (3-1).

In the Costa Mesa girls’ softball tournament:

Corona del Mar 5, Edison 4 (8)--Yasmin Mossadeghi was three for four with two doubles and two RBIs for Edison (3-2).

Costa Mesa 10, Santa Ana 6--Kim Daniels hit two home runs and walked twice to lead Costa Mesa (2-3). Kristine Genet also had a home run with one runner on base for Costa Mesa. Sonia Correa pitched a complete game, giving up six runs (five unearned) on six hits and a walk and struck out three for Costa Mesa. Correa also went three for three with one run scored.

Newport Harbor 4, Saddleback 2--Shawn Talley went two for four with a triple and two runs scored and Audra Adams went three for four with two RBIs for Newport Harbor (2-2).

In the Garden Grove Tournament:

Cerritos Gahr 4, Garden Grove 2 (5 innings)--Monnaye Bernal went one for three with a triple, a sacrifice fly, and three RBIs to lead Gahr (5-0).

In nonleague softball:

Century 2, Rancho Alamitos 0--Jeanette Ramos drove in both runs with a bases-loaded single.

Liberty Christian 13, Huntington Beach Claremont 2 (5, mercy)--Pattie Raia (2-1) gave up two hits in five innings and was two for two with a double, a triple and three RBIs for Liberty Christian (2-1).

Mater Dei 18, Loara 0 (5, mercy rule)--Jaimie Bagnall had four RBIs and Kendra Meano and Monica Lucatero each had three RBIs as top-ranked Mater Dei (3-0) defeated Loara (1-6). Marissa Young struck out seven in three perfect innings pitched, and also had three hits. Kelsey Kollen went four for four.

In the North Orange County baseball tournament:

Aliso Niguel 10, Valencia 7--Sean Stutzman was three for three with three RBIs and Skip Schumaker had three hits and two runs scored for Aliso Niguel (3-1) in the third-place game.

Rancho Alamitos 8, Riverside Notre Dame 4--Kyle Leopard was two for four with three RBIs and Fabian Valadez was three for four with two runs scored for Rancho Alamitos (2-4). Bob Campbell (1-0) pitched 4 2/3 innings for the victory and Scot Maxwell pitched 2 1/3 innings for his first save for the Vaqueros.

In nonleague boys’ tennis:

Dana Hills 13, Palm Desert 5--Dana Hills’ Brian Kent swept, 6-4, 6-2, 6-0, as did the doubles team of Scott Jason and Blake Wilson-Hayden, who won 7-5, 6-3, 6-0, for the Dolphins (4-0).

Newport Harbor 12, San Clemente 6--Tennison Oyler and Dustin Cook swept in doubles, 6-4, 6-0, 6-4, to lead Newport Harbor (2-2).

In nonleague boys’ volleyball:

Esperanza 3 Calvary Chapel 1--Jon Alleman had 23 kills and Kyle Anderson added 12 for Esperanza (4-0), which won, 15-4, 14-16, 15-8, 15-1.
