No. 6 Louisville (25-8) vs. No. 10 Texas (18-11)--These two teams played Jan. 19 with the Cardinals prevailing, 85-78, in overtime after the Longhorns blew a big lead. DeJuan Wheat was held to 13 points but had 10 assists while freshman forward Nate Johnson scored 21 points and junior reserve Eric Johnson 18. “We made some mistakes at the end and they took advantage,” Texas Coach Tom Penders said. “We did a pretty good job on DeJuan but they got other people involved.” Texas guard Reggie Freeman scored 34 in the first meeting and Penders says he may play his leading scorer more at the point so he cannot be taken out of the offense quickly with a double-team or matchup zone.

* No. 1 North Carolina (26-6) vs. No. 5 California (23-8)--The Bears’ starting frontline consists of 6-foot-10 Michael Stewart, 6-9 Alfred Grigsby and 6-6, 250-pound Tony Gonzalez. The Tar Heels counter with a lineup of 6-9, 6-9, 7-3, meaning this will be the most physical of the East Region’s two games. “I expect it to be a war inside,” Grigsby said. North Carolina has a sound Vince Carter, who practiced with little pain Wednesday after suffering a groin injury last week. Cal has no guard who can match Carter’s size (6-5), quickness and jumping ability.
