Pepperdine’s Wolf Dominates Portland, 11-0

Randy Wolf tied his Pepperdine record by striking out 14 batters and the Waves beat Portland, 11-0, in a West Coast Conference baseball opener Friday at Pepperdine.

Wolf (4-2) pitched a six-hitter and walked two. He struck out 14 batters against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Feb. 28.

Wolf, a former City Section player of the year at El Camino Real High, has allowed one run and 11 hits while striking out 19 in his last 18 innings. His earned run average is 1.50.

David Matranga and Steve Zorn each had two hits and three runs batted in for the Waves (12-15), who won their sixth consecutive home game.

MEN’S TENNIS

Pepperdine 6, Colorado 1--Troy Budgen, Anthony Ross and Michael Jessup won in singles and doubles for the ninth-ranked Waves (13-4) at Colorado (10-5).

Simon Aspelin and Brad Sceney lost to Marc Bauer and Dony Papidia of Colorado, 9-8.

MEN’S SWIMMING

Pierce 66, Rio Hondo 27--Motoki Wakabayashi won both springboard diving events for the Brahmas (3-1) in a Western State Conference meet at Pierce.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING

Pierce 77, Rio Hondo 15--Lauren Rem won both butterfly events and the 200 individual medley for the Brahmas (3-1).
