STANFORD (34-1)

vs. OLD DOMINION (33-1)

* Time: 4 p.m.

* TV: ESPN.

* The game: Stanford looks for payback, Old Dominion looks to somehow slip through the Cardinal storm. Old Dominion, with perhaps the most talented starting five in the Final Four, has struggled lately, taking a big lead against Florida in the Mideast Regional final then hanging on to win by two. Old Dominion beat Stanford by 17 in Norfolk, Va., in December, but Stanford hasn’t lost since and has added superb rebounder Kristin Folkl. Old Dominion hasn’t lost since mid-November, 65-62 to North Carolina State. But if the Monarchs have the best first five, Stanford has the best first 10, and played superbly in defeating Georgia in the West Regional final, 82-47. When the tide started coming in, Georgia was ahead, 18-7. In a twinkling, it was 26-18, Stanford.

* The pick: Stanford, big.

*

TENNESSEE (27-10)

vs. NOTRE DAME (31-6)

* Time: 30 minutes after the Stanford-Old Dominion game.

* TV: ESPN.

* The game: Notre Dame will depend heavily on Katryna Gaither, who averages 20.2 points and 9.6 rebounds, and Beth Morgan, 18.3 and 6.2. Tennessee uses 11 players, Notre Dame nine. Tennessee’s Chamique Holdsclaw (20.2, 9.6) is brilliant, a sophomore who could start for any women’s pro team. The Volunteers are superior rebounders, with four averaging five or better. Tennessee must defend Morgan, a streaky shooter who in seven games this season has had three or more three-pointers. Notre Dame’s biggest challenge is probably the Tennessee-Pat Summitt mystique: 15 consecutive tournaments, 10 Final Fours, four national championships.

* The pick: Tennessee.
