Two Masterful Careers

The record-setting careers of Mike Penberthy and Leo Gorauskas came to a close last week when the Master’s College lost to Birmingham-Southern, 73-70, in the first round of the NAIA Division I basketball tournament in Tulsa, Okla.

Penberthy, a 6-foot-3 guard from Fresno Hoover High, ended hi career at Master’s with school career records for points (2,616), three-point baskets (444), three-point attempts (1,017), free throws (816) and best free-throw percentage (87.7).

This season, he set school records for points (825, 27.5 average), three-point baskets (141) and three-point attempts (330).

Gorauskas, a 6-9 center from Encinitas Torrey Pines High, set a school career record for field-goal percentage (63.7), making 726 of 1,139 shots.

During their careers, Penberthy and Gorauskas helped the Mustangs advance to the NAIA tournament four consecutive times and compile a 108-28 record.
