No Deficit Safe for Schintzius

What does a guy have to do to get some playing time with the Clippers?

Coach Bill Fitch cleared his bench after his team fell behind the Detroit Pistons by 32 points in the fourth quarter of Friday night’s 113-85 loss, but Fitch didn’t use center Dwayne Schintzius, who has played in only 15 games.

“I don’t know what I have to do, man,” Schintzius said with a sigh. “A 30-point blowout and you can’t get in, it’s very disappointing. “

Schintzius, who sat out the first two months of the season because of an ankle injury, has been held out of a team-high 19 games by Fitch.

“I told myself that I’m just going to finish out the season and not get injured,” Schintzius said. “It’s working so far. All year long I’ve been injured.

“I’d just love to be on a team where I have my first injury-free season and can contribute.”

Schintzius hasn’t contributed much to the Clippers, averaging only 2.3 points and 1.5 rebounds.

Guard Terry Dehere made a three-point shot in the fourth quarter to surpass Ron Harper as the all-time franchise leader with 249 three-point baskets. Harper made 248.
