Special K: Moorpark pitcher Justin Ames has struck out 36 batters in 25 innings this season.

In his last two games, Ames struck out 12 against Malibu in a Frontier League game and 16 against Reseda in the Thousand Oaks tournament. He walked one and allowed one earned run in those games.

Leftovers: Simi Valley High made it to the Blue Division championship of the Birmingham baseball tournament last week. However, in five tournament games, the Pioneers (6-5, 1-1 in Marmonte League play) left 40 runners on base.

Outfielder David Krewson had 10 hits in 18 tournament at-bats, a .556 pace. Krewson had four doubles, a triple and four runs batted in.

Little ball: Pepperdine has 65 sacrifice bunts, nearly three times the number of its opposition. The Waves have sacrificed 27 times in eight West Coast Conference games.

Catcher Mike Kramer, who bats ninth in the lineup, has 13 sacrifice bunts in 103 plate appearances.

Damon Katz, who bats eighth, has 11 in 104.
