Lefty’s No-Hitter Rights Poly, 9-0

Poly High left-hander Mike Preski pitched a no-hitter in a 9-0 victory over Van Nuys Thursday in a Valley Pac-8 Conference baseball game at Poly.

Preski (3-2), a senior transfer from Palmdale, struck out seven, walked three and needed only 78 pitches to subdue the Wolves (0-7, 0-4 in conference play).

Jorge Garcia had three hits and drove in three runs for Poly (9-8, 4-0), which recovered from five consecutive losses in the San Fernando tournament.

Sylmar 2, Reseda 0--The Spartans scored twice on a squeeze play in the fifth inning of a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Sylmar.

Armando Garcia bunted to drive in Ricardo Zamora, and Carlos Gonzalez scored from second on the play.

Sophomore right-hander Ivan Hernandez (3-2) pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts.

Kennedy 7, Taft 3--Junior left-hander Wes Crown (4-0) pitched a four-hitter, allowing one earned run, and struck out nine for the Golden Cougars (12-5, 4-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Kennedy.

Jon Garland had two hits and drove in three runs for Kennedy, ranked fourth in The Times’ regional poll. Adrian Perez doubled, tripled and drove in two runs.

Mitch Spector hit a home run for Taft (9-5, 2-2).

North Hollywood 13, Canoga Park 0--Ismael Rangsiyawong hit two home runs to raise his season total to seven for the Huskies (12-2, 4-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Lanark Park.

Cesar Soto had two hits and two RBIs for North Hollywood.

Junior Galvan had two hits for Canoga Park (1-9, 0-4).

Grant 14, Monroe 5--Esteban Saldivar had three hits, including a triple, and drove in four runs for the Lancers (6-8, 3-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Monroe.

John Ennis had two hits and three runs batted in for Monroe (5-8, 0-4), and Damien Ritter and Anthony Gaston had two hits each.

El Camino Real 14, Granada Hills 5--Ray LeDuc hit his fourth home run in three games, giving him eight this season, for the Conquistadores (7-6, 2-2) in a Northwest Valley Conference game.

Woody Cliffords had three hits, including his third home run, and drove in three runs, and Cho Merchan added three hits and three RBIs for El Camino Real.

Jesus Gallo struck out five in 2 2/3 innings of relief.

Verdugo Hills 6, Hollywood 5--Frank Rodriguez tripled and scored on a fielder’s choice in the sixth inning of a Northern Conference game at Verdugo Hills.

Ethan Slimak led off the first with his third home run for Verdugo Hills (4-1, 3-1).

Ian Carson (2-0) struck out five.

Hueneme 4, Arroyo Grande 1--The Vikings (10-3), ranked eighth in the region by The Times, scored three runs in the 11th inning of a San Luis Obispo tournament game.

Josh Bolo, running for Pedro Cervantes in the seventh following a triple, scored the tying run on a wild pitch.

Jess Sanchez (4-1) struck out 10 and scattered three hits in six innings of relief.
