Homer Hat Trick Propels Hart, 16-5

Matt McAffee hit three home runs--two solo shots and a three-run blast--to power Hart High to a 16-5 victory over Valencia in a Foothill League baseball game Saturday at Valencia.

McAffee, a senior, has four home runs this season.

Chris Wright had four hits and scored three runs for the Indians (10-6, 4-1 in league play).

Senior left-hander Bobby Graves (3-1), who has a baseball scholarship to Oklahoma, allowed five hits in five innings, struck out seven and walked four.

Brady Burrill had two hits, including a three-run homer, for Valencia (8-7, 1-4).

In other baseball games:

El Segundo 3, Hueneme 2--Jess Sanchez had a sacrifice fly and Pedro Cervantes had a run-scoring single for Hueneme (11-4) in the championship game of the San Luis Obispo tournament.

Tournament most valuable player Bobby Gaines of El Segundo was two for four and scored two runs.

Cervantes and Francisco Camarena were all-tournament selections for Hueneme.

Alemany 14, St. Ignatius (San Francisco) 7--Robert Torres had a double, single and five runs batted in for the Indians (8-5) in the consolation final of the San Luis Obispo tournament.

Kris Dominique had three hits and three RBIs and Billy Scott doubled, singled twice and drove in a run for Alemany.

Agoura 2, Ventura 0--Junior right-hander Chris Poling (2-0) pitched a six-hitter with two strikeouts and stole three bases for the Chargers (7-4) in a nonleague game at Agoura.

Poling raced home on the front end of a double-steal in the first inning to score Agoura’s first run.

In the second, B.J. Hebert doubled and scored on a bases-loaded walk to Matt Dianella.

Faith Baptist 7-4, Valley Christian 6-2--Daniel Cuellar scattered nine hits and struck out 11 for host Faith Baptist in the first game of a doubleheader.

On the day, Cuellar homered, singled and drove in five runs.

Crescenta Valley 8, Burbank 6--Mike Lizarraga had two hits and an RBI for Burbank in the first round of the Babe Herman tournament in Glendale.

SOFTBALL

Royal 3, St. Paul 1--Stephanie Thomas and April Vaughn each hit home runs for Royal in the third-place game of the Arroyo Grande tournament.

Woodbridge 6, Hart 0--Hart (10-3), ranked fourth in the region by The Times, was held to two hits in the quarterfinals of the Irvine Woodbridge tournament.
