The Indiana Pacers avoided being eliminated from the playoff race Monday night when Dale Davis had 23 points and 18 rebounds in a 110-107 overtime victory over the New York Knicks at Indianapolis.

Patrick Ewing was ejected for picking up two technical fouls after being whistled for his sixth personal foul early in overtime, and the Knicks turned to Larry Johnson when they needed a basket in the final seconds.

But Johnson’s 10-foot jump shot over Antonio Davis with three seconds to play caught the front of the rim, and Mark Jackson grabbed the rebound. He made both free throws and the Knicks were unable to get off a final shot.

Iverson’s 40-point performance didn’t come without a little controversy. The 76ers called time out with about 25 seconds to play to set up a play for Iverson, and the Bullets stepped aside and let Iverson take an uncontested three-point shot with 19.6 seconds left to reach 40 points.
