Oft-Injured Sanders Will Miss 4-6 Weeks

Associated Press

Cincinnati Reds’ outfielder Reggie Sanders, who went on the disabled list Saturday because of an injured right ankle, will miss four to six weeks, the team learned Monday.

Sanders suffered a severely sprained right ankle while sliding into second base on a game-ending double play in Friday’s 3-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs. It’s his fifth trip to the DL in the last two seasons.

Sanders, who is hitting .229 with six homers and 20 runs batted in, was also on the disabled list between April 25 and May 6 because of a bulging disc in his lower back.

He played in only 81 games last season because of an assortment of injuries and was placed on the disabled list three times. He hit .251 with 14 homers, 33 RBIs and 24 stolen bases. Sanders enjoyed his best season in 1995, when he hit .306 with 28 homers and 99 RBIs.
