Police, Community Plan Anti-Gang Rally

Share

In an effort to help kids find wholesome activities, police and community members will hold a rally Saturday at Lanark Park.

The Los Angeles Police Department’s West Valley station and the West Valley Community Police Advisory Board will team up with 7-Eleven stores to sponsor the Teens Against Gangs rally at the park, at Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Lanark Street.

“We’re trying to get all the young people we can exposed to any kind of youth group or activity so they wouldn’t feel they needed to join a gang to belong to something,” said Bill Huber, spokesman for the advisory board.

Been There, Done That, a group of reformed gang members and drug dealers, is scheduled to address the youngsters to encourage them to stay away from gangs.

Representatives of the Boy Scouts of America, YMCA, West Valley Boys & Girls Clubs and U.S. military recruiters, among others, will set up booths.

The rally starts at 10 a.m. and will last until about 2 p.m.
