Colbert (65-65) Fires His Repeater in Canada

Jim Colbert, trying to end the longest winless streak of his senior career, shot his second consecutive six-under-par 65 Friday to take a one-stroke lead in the du Maurier Champions in Etobicoke, Canada.
Colbert made a difficult 10-foot birdie putt on the final hole for the Senior PGA Tour’s lowest 36-hole total of the year.
“It looked like it was going to stop three times,” said Colbert, winless since the Raley’s Gold Rush Classic in October.
Colbert’s round was interrupted by a rain delay of 2 hours 15 minutes.
Australia’s Graham Marsh was a stroke behind after a 66, missing a three-foot birdie attempt on St. George’s closing hole, and Jack Kiefer, who shared the first-round lead with Colbert and Marsh, was two behind after a 67.

Pat Hurst, coming off her first victory, shot a five-under 67 for a share of the first-round lead with Brandie Burton and Michelle McGann in the Edina Realty Classic.
Hurst, who edged Juli Inkster by a stroke last week in the Oldsmobile Classic, had six birdies and a bogey on the wind-swept Rush Creek course in Maple Grove, Minn.
Burton had an eagle, four birdies and two bogeys. McGann was six under through 17 holes but dropped a stroke on her closing hole--No. 9--after driving into a water hazard.
Kelli Kuehne, 20, two-time U.S. Women’s Amateur champion, shot a 73 in her first LPGA event as a professional. Her putting was off but she was encouraged after finishing the round by rolling in an 18-foot birdie putt on No. 9.
“I hit the ball awesome,” she said. “To come out and struggle like I did with the putter and be one over, I’m in great shape.”
