A Torrance bagel shop owner was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in prison for setting a fire that destroyed his business and severely damaged nine other stores in the retail complex where his Big City Bagel Co. was located.

A Los Angeles Superior Court Judge sentenced Victor Sheadie Saab, 42, to 10 years in state prison and ordered him to pay $10 million in restitution for the Sept. 30, 1996, fire.

Saab was convicted July 18 of one felony count of arson and insurance fraud.

An investigation by the district attorney’s office found that gasoline was poured throughout the bagel shop and ignited.
