Plans to expand the Point Vicente Interpretive Center in Rancho Palos Verdes by 7,000 square feet and add a library and docent training area are scheduled to get underway in June, city officials have announced.
The city plans to spend $2.4 million to upgrade the marine education center and museum.
The funds will be provided through Proposition A, a voter-approved bond initiative for park improvements.
The center is used by the American Cetacean Society for its annual whale census and is a popular field-trip spot for area schools.
Les Evans, director of Public Works, said the city hopes to finish the project by March 1999.
