Fullerton Women Win First-Round Game

Lauren Murphy hit two free throws with seven seconds left in overtime to put Fullerton ahead by one and clinch a 73-72 victory for the Hornets in a first-round game at the College of the Sequoias women’s basketball tournament Thursday in Visalia.

Fullerton (5-2) led, 44-27, at the half, but De Anza rallied to tie the score, 65-65, at the end of regulation.

Aimee Copp led the Hornets with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Angie Baca added 20 points and Heather Floyd had 16 points, 13 assists and nine rebounds.

In the Cuesta basketball tournament:

Orange Coast 85, Napa 42--Jennifer Ludwicki scored 17 points in a first-round victory for Orange Coast (6-2). Chantay Peyton and Ruth delosSantos each scored 13 points for the Pirates.

In nonconference basketball:

Irvine Valley 82, Santa Monica 37--Mary Jo Pennington scored a game-high 17 points with eight rebounds as the Lasers improved to 6-1.

In the Orange Coast men’s basketball tournament:

El Camino 65, Golden West 46--El Camino shot 52% from the field in the first-round victory over Golden West (0-5). Erick Boyett led the Warriors (3-5) with 22 points, hitting nine of 14 from the field. Mark Perry led Golden West with 14 points and Todd Jones grabbed 12 rebounds.

Irvine Valley 77, Imperial Valley 61--Matt Houser scored 18 points for Irvine Valley (6-0). Teammate Robert Griffin scored 17 points.

Orange Coast 85, Barstow 76--Shaun Jackson had 18 points and seven rebounds as the tournament host Pirates (4-3) won their first-round game. Brady Clark added 12 points and seven rebounds for Orange Coast, which plays El Camino tonight.
