Driver Injured as Car, Blue Line Train Crash
A Blue Line train collided with an auto Wednesday at a busy intersection in Compton, and rescuers had to cut their way through the smashed vehicle to free the driver.
Officials of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which operates the commuter train, were not immediately able to explain the circumstances surrounding the crash, which occurred at 3:59 p.m. The car and the Los Angeles-bound train collided at Compton Boulevard and Willowbrook Avenue.
The motorist was conscious when he was pulled from the vehicle, authorities said.
Compton firefighters worked for more than 30 minutes with hydraulic tools to cut the unidentified motorist from the car. It was not immediately known if any of the train’s passengers were injured in the crash.
