British Open Champion Leonard Among Players in Mixed Event
Justin Leonard, the British Open champion, tops the field in the Diners Club Matches, which begin today at the Nicklaus course at PGA West in La Quinta.
The $2.1-million event features 48 players from the PGA, Senior PGA and LPGA tours competing in a match-play format.
Five of Leonard’s Ryder Cup teammates--Tom Lehman, Brad Faxon, Jeff Maggert, Lee Janzen and Jim Furyk--are also in the field. Annika Sorenstam, Karrie Webb and Nancy Lopez lead the LPGA players. Gil Morgan, a six-time winner in 1997, leads the senior tour.
The top-seeded teams are Steve Elkington-Maggert, Webb-Kelly Robbins and Morgan-Jay Sigel.
