Cherney’s 20 Lead Edison Past Century

Melanie Cherney scored 20 points for Edison, which swept through pool play of Estancia tournament with a 69-59 girls’ basketball victory over Century Thursday night at Estancia.

Christina Patterson added 13 points for Edison (5-0), which led, 38-31, at the half.

Aprile Powell led all scorers with 21 points for Century.

In another Estancia tournament game:

Huntington Beach 58, Dana Hills 50--Debbie Slama scored 12 points for Huntington Beach in its pool-play victory over Dana Hills.

In the Carson City tournament:

Marina 55, Hawthorne Mineral County (Nev.) 40--Karyn Fierst scored 22 points as Marina (3-1) won a first-round game. Teammates Nikki Lee and Chanda McLeod each scored eight points.

Mineral County (3-1) is the defending Nevada Division AAA champion.

In the Falcon Classic:

Brethren Christian 53, Long Beach Wilson JV 37--Rachel MacDonald scored 29 points and Cindy Oparah had 17 for Brethren Christian.

Corona del Mar 48, Katella 37--Jennifer Dickson had 15 points, 16 rebounds and seven blocks and Sarah Dunlap contributed 10 points and four steals for Corona del Mar (1-3).

Irvine 56, Santa Ana Valley 27--Lorraine O’Hara scored 25 points for Irvine, which led, 39-13, at the half.

Long Beach Wilson 57, Rosary 50--Sarah Belavic scored 19 points and Romina Bollini had 10 for Rosary (5-1), which was outscored, 30-24, in the second half.

In the Ladycat Classic:

Brea Olinda 96, Torrance Bishop Montgomery 30--Brea Olinda (7-0) built a 51-18 halftime lead against the defending Division III state champions.

Cat Solorio scored 17 points and Lindsey Davidson had 12 points, seven assists and five steals for top-ranked Brea Olinda, which will play Riverside North in the final at 8 p.m. Saturday.

In the South Coast Holiday Classic:

Ocean View 43, San Bernardino 37--Anna Lembke had 20 points and 10 rebounds for Ocean View (3-1) in the consolation game.

University 36, La Quinta 34--Fala Suiaunoa scored 10 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had four assists to lead University over La Quinta in the consolation game.

In nonleague games:

No. 2 San Clemente 76, Laguna Hills 34--Colleen Turnbull scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds for San Clemente (5-1). Laguna Hills is 0-4.

Fullerton 49, Bolsa Grande 20--Bethany Ferr scored 12 points for visiting Fullerton in its victory over Bolsa Grande.

Orange 53, Orange Lutheran 42--Randi Perry scored 12 points and a game-high 21 rebounds for visiting Orange (5-3).

Saddleback 42, Savanna 38--Elisa Hernandez scored 20 points in a victory for Saddleback (4-2). Teammate Prabjot Kaur scored 16 points for the Roadrunners. The Rebels are 1-2.
