Brea Uses a Long-Range Approach in Victory

Brea Olinda made 13 three-pointers as the Ladycats defeated Riverside J.W. North, 78-33, to win the championship game of Ladycat Classic on Saturday.

Erin Kelly led Brea with 33 points, including six three-pointers. Lindsey Davidson had six assists and seven steals for Brea (8-0).

In the Carson Nevada tournament:

Marina 68, Reno Wooster 57--Natalie Nakase scored 25 points and had 11 assists to lead Marina in the championship game in Carson City, Nev.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that the Vikings have won the tournament.

Nakase was named tournament MVP.

In the Fairmont girls’ basketball tournament:

Connelly 52, Rio Hondo Prep 20--Ruth Lazzari had 14 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Koalas to the championship. Diane Kelly added eight points and five steals for Connelly (3-0).

Fairmont 42, Capistrano Valley Christian 37--Katy Bartsow scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds and Rebecca Agnew added 15 points for Fairmont (2-5).

In the Grizzley Classic:

Santa Ana Calvary Chapel 62, Downey Calvary Chapel 17--Tournament MVP Cathy Jones had 14 points, nine assists and 14 steals for Santa Ana in the championship victory.

In the South Coast Holiday Classic:

Capistrano Valley 74, Santa Margarita 49--Monique Matthews scored 22 points and had 17 rebounds to lead Capistrano Valley to the championship. Sarina Kissel had 14 points and both Leah Wild and Natasha Combs had 13 points for the Cougars.

El Modena 61, Trabuco Hills 55--El Modena (3-2) had four players score in double figures of the consolation championship game. Shannon Baron had 15 points, Valerie Matweeff had 13, Amanda Lopez scored 12 and Lindsay Galasso added 11.

In the University tournament:

Villa Park 55, Vista 53--Missy Bynon’s game-winning shot at the buzzer lifted Villa Park in the third-place game. Bynon scored 27 points to lead Villa Park and Jennifer O’Keefe added 12 points.

Newport Harbor 55, Jurupa Valley 32--April Ross and Alyssa Paul each scored 13 points for Newport Harbor (2-2). Kalena Jackson added 12 points for the Sailors.

In nonleague girls’ basketball:

Estancia 42, L.A. Notre Dame Academy 34--Lisa Steinfeld had 16 points and Lauren Cassity had 10 points for host Estancia (1-5).
