A 32-year-old woman died Monday after she apparently lost consciousness behind the wheel of her car and crashed head-on with another driver, police said.
Natasha Kay Westerwelle of West Covina was driving south on Bristol Street at Baker Street about 2 p.m. when she drifted into the northbound lane and struck a Jeep. Police said her Mazda Miata appeared to have been going 40 to 45 mph.
Westerwelle was pronounced dead at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach. The other driver, Lawrence Pendleton, 56, of Corona del Mar, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.
It was not immediately clear what caused Westerwelle to lose consciousness, and investigators have requested an autopsy, police said.
