Veterans Memorial to Be Erected in Park

As part of Santa Monica’s newly adopted beach improvement project, the city will erect a veterans memorial in Palisades Park to replace a monument that was torn down to make room for the Third Street Promenade.

The new structure will be located just north of Ocean and Colorado avenues and will incorporate plaques from the original 1967 memorial, said beach manager Judith Meister.

She said construction on the $20,000 project will begin in January 1998.

The city Parks and Recreation Commission will solicit public input about the memorial’s design at a meeting July 17.
