High Desert Overtakes JetHawks
The Lancaster JetHawks got three home runs from Joe Mathis and James Clifford, but it was a bases empty shot by Rod Barajas that gave the High Desert Mavericks a 6-5 come-from-behind win Monday in a California League game in Adelanto.
Mathis homered to leadoff the game. It was his third home run of the series and second he started the game with a round tripper, giving the JetHawks (12-6) a 1-0 lead. They added a second run in the inning when Josh Watts singled home Jason Regan, who doubled. Clifford later hit two bases-empty home runs to help Lancaster build a 4-1 lead.
But High Desert (11-7) came up with four in the bottom of the fifth off loser Javier Gutierrez (1-1). Ron Hartman singled in the go-ahead run with one out. Brett Backland (1-0) got the victory in relief.
