Pay Parking Due at Harbor Launch Area

People will soon pay to park at Ventura Harbor as officials search for ways to cover the mounting costs facing the city’s port district.

An automated parking system, which can make change for dollar bills, is scheduled to be installed today, according to Deputy Harbor Master David Glaser.

Officials are not sure exactly when the meter will be running but estimate that the system will be up late this week or early next week.

People who park in the lot and want to use the boat launch will pay $1 for two hours, $2 for three hours and $3 for four hours or more. Yearly passes will be available for $50.

Glaser said the harbor and launch pad require maintenance and repairs.

“The days of free public service are over. We just can’t afford to do it any other way now,” he said.

Free parking will be available at the overflow parking lot at Schooner Drive and Harbor Boulevard, several hundred yards from the harbor.
