FULLERTON — Neighbors and friends of a 7-year-old boy who was killed in a traffic accident Monday are organizing a fund-raiser to help the family pay for his burial.
Shawn Martinkovich was killed when a semitruck making a right turn from Commonwealth Avenue onto Gilbert Street struck him and a friend, Jose Montoya, on their bikes, said Fullerton Police Officer Lorraine Jones.
The truck driver, who was making a legal turn on a green light, was not cited, police said.
Martinkovich died at the hospital. Montoya suffered a leg injury and is expected to recover fully at UCI Medical Center in Orange, Jones said.
A carwash to raise funds for burial costs and for Montoya’s medical costs will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. today and Friday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Commonwealth Avenue and Pritchard Street in Fullerton.
