Stabbing Victim in Critical Condition

Police are looking for suspects in an attack early Sunday morning that sent a man to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Oxnard Police Sgt. Jana Young said 34-year-old Jose Melendez of Oxnard was walking on Hueneme Road near Perkins Road about 1:40 a.m., when he was confronted by several assailants who repeatedly beat and stabbed him in the upper body, face and head.
In addition to the stab wounds, Melendez suffered multiple skull and facial fractures, according to Young.
The suspects fled, leaving Melendez lying on the sidewalk and bleeding profusely, Young said. He was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, where he was listed in critical condition.
The case is being investigated by the Oxnard Police Department Major Crimes division.
