Los Angeles County sheriff’s detectives were seeking the public’s help in determining who killed two men whose decomposing bodies were discovered Thursday in a car parked on a residential street, authorities said Sunday.

“Right now this case is a whodunit,” said Deputy Bob Killeen, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman. “We’re really looking for help.”

Cesar Meza, 34, of Huntington Park, and Omar Carlos Gutierrez, 29, of South Gate, both died of gunshot wounds to the head, authorities said.

The bodies were discovered Thursday evening in Meza’s abandoned blue Honda Accord in the 200 block of West Linden Avenue, Killeen said. At least one was found in the trunk of the car.

Investigators estimated that the men had been dead for three to four days, Killeen said. Residents noticed a foul odor coming from the car, saw something that looked like blood dripping from the trunk and called police.

Anyone with information should call homicide Det. Stuart Reed or Det. Gib Anderson at (213) 890-5500, Killeen said.
