A 34-year-old custodian with the Simi Valley school district has been charged with having sex with a minor.

Two counts each of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and unlawful oral copulation with a minor were filed Wednesday against Eric Douglas Harris of Simi Valley, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Adam Pearlman.

According to police, Harris and a male friend identified only as “Mike” picked up the 17-year-old girl July 5 as she was walking north on Sycamore Drive. They offered to take her to a mall but instead drove to Harris’ home in the 2200 block of Madrone Street, said Simi Valley Police Det. Dave DelMarto.

Once inside, the suspects engaged in “consensual and not forced” sexual intercourse with the girl, DelMarto said.

Harris was arrested July 10 and is free on $5,000 bail. He was suspended from his full-time job as a custodian at the school district, as required by the state Education Code, school officials said. If cleared of the charges, Harris will be allowed to resume work.

Police are still searching for the second suspect.
