Mays Looks Strong in Lancaster Win
It took 101 games, but the Lancaster JetHawks got their first complete game of the season in a 2-1 victory over the Lake Elisore Storm Monday in a California League game at the Diamond in Lake Elsinore.
Right-hander Joe Mays (4-1) allowed six hits, struck out six and walked four. He entered the game with a 4.78 earned-run average but has now allowed only one run in his last 16 innings.
The only run for the Storm (45-56) came with two outs in the fifth inning on a single by Jon VanderGriend and a triple by Norm Hutchins. The JetHawks (53-48, 19-11 in the second half) were trailing, 1-0, when Cirilo Cruz doubled down the third-base line to score James Clifford and Jason Regan.
