Panel May Take Measure A Appeal to State High Court
El Toro Reuse Planning Authority officials may decide today to take their battle to invalidate Measure A--the 1994 ballot initiative that opened the door to a commercial airport at the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station--to the California Supreme Court.
At a special meeting, the group of South County cities is expected to consider whether to seek review of a recent decision by the 4th District Court of Appeal in San Diego that upheld the referendum.
“We’ll probably vote to take it to the Supreme Court,” said Cindy Greengold, a Laguna Hills councilwoman who is an alternate on the reuse panel’s board of directors. “The courts are funny. You never know what court will pick up on a piece of information that another court didn’t.”
The possible appeal will be discussed in closed session. The results of a recent meeting with county officials about the authority’s hopes to develop a non-aviation alternative to the airport may also be discussed, officials said.
The meeting will be at Laguna Hills City Hall, 25201 Paseo de Alicia, at 7:30 a.m. Information: (714) 707-2600.
