Police arrested an 18-year-old Garden Grove man Wednesday in a gang-related shooting that killed two teenagers at a house party in May.

Ha Thanh Than was arrested Wednesday after eyewitnesses identified him as one of the reputed gang members involved in the fatal shootings of Tom Huynh, 14, of Fullerton and Son Thanh Nguyen, 15, of Garden Grove, said Westminster Det. Terry Selinske.

Police determined that Huynh and Nguyen were affiliated with gang members and were hanging out at an end-of-school party in Westminster on May 31 when a group of uninvited gang members barged in, Selinske said.

A fight broke out between the two victims and some of the rivals, he said

“The argument apparently was about some previous confrontation they had,” Selinske said.

One reputed gang member allegedly opened fire with a semi-automatic handgun, striking four people, including Huynh and Nguyen, who both died from their injuries, Selinske said.

In June, police arrested another suspect, Phong Quoc Nguyen, 19, of Garden Grove, on suspicion of being involved in the shooting.

Van Ngoc Nguyen, 18, also of Garden Grove, has been identified as the suspected shooter in the case and he remains at large, Selinske said.
