Winalota Cash, Dashing Folly to Race Tonight at Track

Tonight’s $100,000 Go Man Go Handicap at Los Alamitos Race Course features the first rematch between the 1995 and 1996 champion horses.

Winalota Cash, the 1995 champion, can become the third horse in quarter horse history to win $1.8 million if the 3-year-old gelding finishes eighth or better.

More likely, Winalota Cash’s new trainer, veteran Blane Schvaneveldt, will send the horse after 1996 champion Dashing Folly, who is unbeaten in nine stakes starts this season. The filly trounced Winalota Cash last December in the Champion of Champions race, where Winalota Cash finished a disappointing sixth. However, the gelding has won 16 of 25 career starts and most of them were major stakes races. Dashing Folly has won 12 of 15 career starts.

Dashing Folly’s trainer, Donna McArthur, says she isn’t worried about the rematch. “Winalota Cash is a solid horse, but every horse in this race will be tough to beat,” she said.

Fifteen horses have been nominated to race in the event, including last year’s winner, Blushing By.

Tonight’s first race begins at 7:15 p.m.
