Marte Rejoining Martinez Watch

Share

No matter what the outcome, Damaso Marte will likely save every article on tonight’s game at San Bernardino for his scrapbook. Marte, a 22-year-old left-hander, will oppose his childhood hero, Dodger ace Ramon Martinez, in a 7:05 p.m. game.

Martinez, recovering from a slight tear in the rotator cuff of his throwing shoulder, is expected to pitch the first four innings in his second rehabilitation assignment. Marte and Martinez were born in Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Martinez is expected to attract a large crowd at The Ranch, a stadium with 5,000 seats as well sky boxes and standing room. Team spokeswoman Melissa Olds said plenty of tickets should be available. “We’re anticipating between three and four thousand,” she said, “but sales are definitely picking up now that Martinez is pitching.”
