Admittedly scared about his future after suffering his second concussion in 18 days, San Diego quarterback Stan Humphries is not sure he’ll play again.

“When stuff happens like this, it gets frightening, especially when you have family and kids at home,” Humphries told reporters in between appointments with specialists.

Humphries, 32, has suffered three concussions in the last 11 months and four overall. His latest concussion came in the third quarter of Sunday’s 38-31 loss at Cincinnati.

Backup Jim Everett missed the last two games with an injury to his right elbow. If Everett can’t go Sunday against Seattle, third-year pro Craig Whelihan, 26, would make his first NFL start.

Jacksonville’s Tony Boselli, one of the best offensive tackles in the NFL, sprained his right ankle in a 30-24 victory at Tennessee on Sunday and could be sidelined four weeks. . . . Cincinnati Bengal safety Tremain Mack is in an undisclosed treatment center having his drinking problem assessed. Once the evaluation is completed, the NFL will decide whether to fine him up to $20,000 or suspend him. Mack had a blood-alcohol level of .18--nearly twice Ohio’s legal limit--when he was stopped for speeding Oct. 25.

The Miami Dolphins consider Dan Marino’s status a question mark for next week’s game against the New York Jets, but the NFL’s all-time passing leader says he should be ready to play. Marino sprained his ankle in the third quarter of the Dolphins’ 9-6 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. . . . Kelly Holcomb, a four-year starter at Middle Tennessee who waited more than two years to make his NFL debut, probably will start at quarterback for the winless Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Injuries to Paul Justin and Jim Harbaugh have elevated the former emergency quarterback to a starting role against Cincinnati on Sunday. . . . Seattle rookie Shawn Springs will be sidelined three to six weeks because of a broken right thumb suffered in the Seahawks’ loss to Denver.
