City Offers Information on El Nino Preparation
With El Nino posing a threat, the city is taking steps to be prepared. Potential impacts include flooding, property damage and disruption of utility services and transportation systems.
“The important task that we have to do is to try to look at what impacts it may have in our city and look at ways we can plan ahead,” said Roger Smith, Fire Department operations division chief, who said residents should brace themselves for heavy rain and flooding.
“What’s important for the community and residents is to be as self-sufficient as they can,” he said.
The city is providing information on getting needed supplies, dealing with power failures and proper sandbagging techniques. Residents also are advised to check for roof leaks, clear debris from rain gutters and secure awnings in preparation for heavy storms. Residents interested in volunteering during an emergency can call (714) 765-4020. El Nino information: (714) 765-5162.
