Ohio University’s leading rusher, fullback Steve Hookfin, was suspended for Saturday’s game against Miami of Ohio because of his arrest at a street party.

Hookfin was charged with misdemeanor counts of underage consumption of an alcoholic beverage and possession of false identification after being arrested Saturday. The player pleaded not guilty, and a hearing is scheduled Nov. 24.

Hookfin, 20, has rushed for 823 yards for Ohio (8-1).

Washington State quarterback Ryan Leaf is still sore from the Arizona State game but said his injured arm will be fine for Saturday’s game against Southwestern Louisiana.

Leaf stretched a tendon in his throwing elbow, possibly by throwing too much in practice last Friday. He wore a protective sleeve and was taped in Saturday’s 44-31 loss at Arizona State.

“It’s a little sore, but it’ll be no problem,” Leaf said in a conference call with reporters. He also is suffering from knee and ankle injuries and an injury to his non-throwing shoulder.

“The bone would have to be popping out of his skin before he ever left a game,” Coach Mike Price said of Leaf.
