Defensive end Darrell Russell of the Raiders also was fined $5,000, cornerback Calvin Branch and safety Eric Turner were fined $2,500 and cornerback Perry Carter was fined $1,000.

Center Frank Garcia drew a $7,500 fine, the largest fine for a Panther. Fined $2,500 apiece were Carolina tackle Blake Brockermeyer, quarterback Kerry Collins, guard Norberto Davidds-Garrido, halfback Fred Lane and guard Greg Skrepenak. Wide receiver Raghib Ismail was fined $1,000.

The incident happened when Lane, who rushed for club records of 147 yards and three touchdowns, was hit by Maryland after a whistle and Garcia took offense, setting off a series of fights along the sideline.
