Meeting to Seek Input on Church Expansion

Share

The City Council, anticipating controversy over proposed expansion of the Yorba Linda Friends Church--the largest Quaker congregation in the country--has approved a special meeting to gather community input.

The session will be held Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. in the council’s chambers, Community Development Director Patricia Haley said.

Input from the session will be used in shaping a report looking at the effects a 100,000-square-foot expansion could have on traffic, on wildlife and in other areas. Approval of the session came as the city awarded a $44,000 contract for the environmental impact report to Templeton Planning Group. A draft of the report should be completed by March, Haley said.

The church’s proposal has sparked protest from some neighbors. Church officials have said increasing attendance has left them with no choice but to grow.
