SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Brea Olinda Coach Jon Looney had seen enough of his team’s inconsistent offense lately, so he went back to basics Friday night. The result was a 28-7 Orange League victory over a winless Anaheim team at Glover Stadium.

“We had some housecleaning to do,” Looney said. “We went back to the nuts and bolts on offense.”

And to hammer home Looney’s point, Brea (8-1, 4-0) breezed to a 28-0 halftime lead.

The Wildcats started by driving 61 yards in 12 plays on their second possession with Eric Albrecht scoring from two yards. Scott Davis kicked the first of four conversions.

Rasuli Webster then intercepted a Robert Ramirez pass and returned it 40 yards to give Brea a 14-0 lead with 25 seconds remaining in the first quarters.

Things didn’t get any better for Anaheim (0-9, 0-4) in the second quarter.

Brea’s Deonta Birdsong returned a punt 30 yards to the Anaheim 14-yard line. Travis Blood, on the next play, passed 14 yards to Stephan Willmer to give Brea a 21-0 lead.

Brea’s next score was set up by Birdsong’s interception. Four plays later, Blood threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Ron Benigno for a 28-0 lead.

Anaheim got its only score when Jimmy Gorman connected on a 21-yard touchdown pass with Larry Clawson with 1 minute 26 seconds left in the game.

Brea finishes its regular-season schedule next Friday night against Magnolia.

Anaheim will attempt to win its first game of the season at Valencia.
