Danny Manning scored six of his 35 points in the fourth overtime Friday night at Portland to give the Phoenix Suns a 140-139 victory over the Trail Blazers in the eighth quadruple-overtime game in NBA history.

It was the first four-overtime game since Feb. 1, 1987, when Golden State defeated New Jersey, 150-147.

Phoenix’s victory ended the Trail Blazers’ six-game winning streak. Rex Chapman, who scored 28 points, clinched the victory with two free throws with 11.2 seconds to play.

Chicago 105, Charlotte 92--Dennis Rodman got struck in Chicago traffic and arrived late as the Bulls ended a two-game losing streak.

“He was here getting himself ready and we told him the show must go on,” said Michael Jordan, who scored 28 points.

Rodman, the NBA’s most noted bad boy, said he drew a $100 fine from Coach Phil Jackson.

“You know with the traffic how it is,” said Rodman, who entered the game with 6:52 left in the first quarter and finished with 14 rebounds. “I didn’t want to break my routine. I didn’t want to leave too early and come in and waste my time.”

Before the game, the Bulls put guard Steve Kerr on the injured list because of a bruised left knee.

Atlanta 104, Sacramento 103--Christian Laettner scored 18 points and Alan Henderson came off the bench for 17 at Atlanta as the Hawks extended their record to 9-0, the best start in franchise history.

Utah 110, Seattle 104--Jeff Hornacek scored 23 points, including a key three-point basket with 1:05 remaining at Salt Lake City.

Karl Malone added 23 points, including nine in the final 5:14, as Utah defeated an above-.500 for the first time this season.

Orlando 103, Denver 85--Horace Grant scored 21 points and former Clipper Bo Outlaw had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Magic over the winless Nuggets at Orlando.

The Magic played without leading scorer Penny Hardaway, who was sidelined because of tendinitis in his left knee.

Boston 103, Toronto 99--Antoine Walker had 22 points and 18 rebounds and much-maligned Celtic rookie Chauncey Billups scored a career-high 22 at Boston.

Rookie Ron Mercer remained on the floor for several minutes after being knocked down in the third quarter, then was helped off the court. He did not return.

Indiana 82, Miami 78--Reggie Miller scored 21 points, Rik Smits added 16 and the Pacers survived a fourth-quarter rally by the Heat at Indianapolis.
