Things didn’t start too well for Janov in the state championship game Saturday against Merced. He was hit above the eye and the game was stopped while the wound was treated. But he came back and scored two goals and Golden West won, 14-5. Janov, most valuable player in Southern California and the South Coast Conference, had three goals in the quarterfinal and semifinal victories Friday.

* Santa Ana, sophomore. He had three interceptions as Santa Ana clinched the Mission Conference Central Division title with a 38-16 victory over Fullerton.
