Price Named Regional Volleyball Coach of Year

Former Cal State Northridge men’s volleyball Coach John Price was selected NCAA Division II Southwest Region women’s volleyball coach of the year.

Price, who is in his first season at Cal State Bakersfield, led the Roadrunners to the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. championship. The Roadrunners (26-3) play Regis, Colo., in the Division II quarterfinals Dec. 5 at Bakersfield.

Outside hitter Nicole Sanderson and setter Becci Roehl of Pepperdine were selected to the All-West Coast Conference team.

Sanderson and Loyola Marymount setter Tracy Holman became the first players in league history to be selected four times.

Karen Benkovsky, Janie Hill and Anna Witkowski were second-team selections from the Waves.

Sarah Noriega of Loyola Marymount was named the WCC player of the year.

Highland High middle blocker Josie Wilson was selected Golden League girls’ volleyball player of the year.

Emily Dalbeck of La Canada was named Rio Hondo League player of the year.

Hart High junior midfielder Erin Misaki is one of 20 selected to the under-16 U.S. National team.

Misaki helped the Indians reach the Southern Section Division I title game last season and had 18 goals and 11 assists.

Pepperdine sophomore forward Jennifer Peterson earned her second consecutive All-West Coast Conference selection after scoring nine goals and adding six assists this season.

Wave goalkeeper Sumon Nicole was a second-team pick and midfielder Ashley Lewis and forward Tracey Milburn, who went to Moorpark High, received honorable mention.

Nicole Bucciarelli, who attended Grant High, and Stephanie Rigamat, from Crescenta Valley, were selected to the All-Big West Conference team after helping the Anteaters win the conference tournament title.

Bucciarelli, a junior honored for the second consecutive season, was Irvine’s leading scorer with 13 goals and seven assists, and ranked third in the conference. She is the Anteaters’ career scoring leader with 96 points.

Rigamat, a freshman, was the team’s second-leading scorer with nine goals and seven assists.

* The second annual Grace Brethren Junior-Senior High Golf Classic will be held Monday at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley.

Registration for the Texas-scramble tournament is at 9 a.m., with play beginning at 11.

Cost is $175 per person, and includes a golf cart, shirt, lunch, dinner and sports memorabilia auction.
