WESTMINSTER — Marina had only four plays in the third quarter and six in the fourth, but that was enough to score five touchdowns and rally to a 46-22 nonleague victory over Westminster Friday night at Westminster High.
Westminster held a 15-12 halftime lead before Marina bounced back with three touchdowns on only four plays in the third quarter. Quarterback Scot Austin scored on a 47-yard run and Ryan Daguro scored on a run of 21 yards after an interception by Diego Segura. The third touchdown of the quarter took two plays: a nine-yard pass from Austin to Donald Lank, followed by a 70-yard touchdown run by Daguro.
Marina took three plays to score on its first drive of the fourth quarter, with Daguro capping the 53-yard scoring drive with a 20-yard touchdown run. Steve Franks scored the final Viking touchdown from nine yards on a three-play, 20-yard drive set up by a 30-yard interception return by Lank.
Marina (3-1) scored first on a 13-yard run by Jesse Keith, a quick two-play 58-yard drive.
Westminster sophomore quarterback Kelly Coburn, making his second start of the season, broke his collarbone late in the first quarter.
The Lions (1-3) responded with two second-quarter touchdowns. Elijah McCarthy, who earlier in the drive picked up 57 yards, hit Tommy Tuggle with a one-yard, fourth-down touchdown pass. Nathan Coelho took a bad snap from center and passed to Junior Tau to give Westminster an 8-6 lead.
Marina regained the lead with a nine-yard touchdown pass from Austin to Lank on another three-play drive.
