Santa Ana Valley snapped a 14-game losing streak with a 35-7 victory over Century in a nonleague game Friday night at Santa Ana Stadium.

The Falcons’ last victory came against Irvine, 31-14, in the 1995 playoffs. Coach Eddie Steward picked up his first win in two seasons.

“This game is really not about me, it’s about the team,” Steward said. “Things will get better for us and this will be the beginning of something good.”

Five plays was all the Falcons needed to score first. Rolando Ramirez connected with Koa Bartlett for a 26-yard gain.

Then from the Century 36-yard line, Ramirez completed a 17-yard pass to Bryan Save. Two plays later, James Sargent scored from 19 yards with 3:18 remaining in the first quarter.

The Centurions tied the score, 7-7, in the second quarter on a 32-yard carry by sophomore Fortino Rivera on only the second play after taking possession.

Santa Ana Valley put the game of reach after Tupenatanoe Tanielu sacked Centurion quarterback Joel Valdez on two consecutive plays. Bartlett returned the ensuing punt 74 yards to make the score 28-7.
