Philadelphia 76er point guard Allen Iverson has appealed a one-game suspension the NBA imposed on him for the regular-season opener following his no-contest plea to charges of carrying a concealed weapon. The league had no comment.

Golden State Warrior forward Joe Smith strained his right knee during practice in Santa Rosa, Calif., but the team said the injury did not appear serious.

Guard Muggsy Bogues, locked in a dispute with the Charlotte Hornets about his preseason medical requirements, agreed to the team’s demand for a special test on his chronically sore left knee, but he also filed a grievance with the NBA players’ union. The league will determine the next course of action.
